Spectral Visions #2: The Nine Deaths of Dr. Valentine

Spectral LogoDo you remember all those wonderful films starring Vincent Price, like Masque of the Red Death, Theatre of Blood, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Dr. Phibes Rises Again and Witchfinder General? Well, John Llewellyn Probert, author of the second in the Spectral Visions series of novellas, certainly does. The Nine Deaths of Dr. Valentine is a gruesome but immensely fun and very warm tribute to Vincent Price and the films he starred in, and John’s novella is one of the most enjoyable reads this editor has had in a long while. Here’s what the man said on his Facebook status announcing Spectral’s acquisition of the book:

“I am seriously delighted to announce that my novella The Nine Deaths of Dr Valentine is to be published by Spectral Press later this year. It’s my tribute to Theatre of Blood and The Abominable Dr. Phibes, amongst others, and is the most fun I’ve had writing ever. Someone is killing doctors in the style of the murders in Vincent Price movies. The Bristol police are baffled. The only man who could possibly be responsible died years ago. Or did he…..?” (Cue dramatic music!)

The novella is scheduled to be published in September, with a launch and a signing at this year’s FantasyCon in Brighton. John will also be giving a reading from the book, something which I urge all attendees to experience as, if you’ve never witnessed a JLP reading, then your life is definitely incomplete. I am very much looking forward to working on this one.

More details soon!

Oh, that’ll be fun. Trouble was, I misread that as “The Nine Deaths of Mark Valentine” at first, which distressed me!
