Mark Morris says: “I’m pleased to announce that THE 2ND SPECTRAL BOOK OF HORROR STORIES is now open to submissions! Stories can be any length (though the preferred length is 2000-8000 words) and payment is £20 per 1000 words, up to a maximum of £100, which means that if you submit a story that’s over 5000 words it will be on the understanding that you’ll be giving us those additional words for free. The closing date for submissions is June 30th, and the book will be launched at FantasyCon in October. Due to the volume of stories I’m expecting to receive over the next few months it may take a while for me to get back to you, and my responses may, by necessity, be brief (I have my own writing deadlines to meet, after all). PLEASE NOTE: NO MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS AND NO REPRINTS!! All submissions should be sent to
and stories should be double-spaced in a clear, readable font. There’s no theme for the anthology – all I’m looking for are well-written, original, disturbing stories that push my buttons. If you want further clues as to the kinds of stories I like, I recommend you buy and read a copy of the inaugural volume of THE SPECTRAL BOOK OF HORROR STORIES, which is available from Spectral Press. Thanks – and good luck!”
Yes, we know it won’t be available until October this year but, given the popularity of the inaugural volume, we thought it might be an idea to put it on pre-order now for those who would like to secure a copy ahead of time. The prices will be exactly the same as last year. Also like the first volume the cover will be by the award-winning Vincent Chong, whose artistic kung-fu is legendary.

Calling horror writers or any writer wanting to have a stab (sorry) at something different. Submissions now open for this upcoming horror anthology – deadline June 30th!
This looks great. I might have to see what I can pull together!
Indeed, you should!

Question — is it The 2nd Spectral Book of Horror Stories, or The Spectral Book of Horror Stories, vol. 2, or The Spectral Book of Horror Stories 2? All three are used (or implied — the title of this post implies the third one) here on the page. I’m collecting info for a future post about open anthologies and I’m not sure exactly what your title is going to be. Thanks!
Use the title “The Spectral Book of Horror Stories 2” for your post. appears to be the simplest option for the moment… =D

Would love to get something together for this. Will have to go through the virtual filing system and see if there’s a story I can spruce up and send off…
Excellent – and good luck Layla! =)
I’m feeling the cover. Will be submitting.
This was last year’s cover Michael – this year’s is going to be even better!
Good luck with the submission!

Will you accept sim subs?
Thanks for getting in touch.
As to your question, they should be original, not submitted or published anywhere else, and only story to be submitted.
Only one story to be submitted, that should say…
Thanks for the very quick reply! I submitted a story in March and was considering sending it to another market too, but now I shall wait. 🙂
Just a quick clarification query. If a prospective contributor has already had a story rejected, can they send another before the sub window closes?
I think your best bet would be to submit again next year – last I heard from Mark he has received hundreds of submissions so I would save it for 2016’s edition..
Thank you kindly for the reply, Simon..
Many thanks for the stunningly fast reply.
